Calm background for reading or a slow afternoon — songbirds in an old-growth forest in Western Poland, open canopy on a still spring day, no wind and no traffic, just birds calling back and forth through the trees.

The trail cuts through the forest with tall mixed trees on both sides — the mic picked up birds left and right of the path. We walked deep in. Absolutely no one around. Wolves are in this territory, no bears — it felt small and quiet in a way that's hard to explain. Every few minutes: what is that, what is that. Worth it. • Gear: Røde NT1, Zoom H1N, GoPro 10 • Mic placed along the trail to catch birds on both sides of the path.

Recorded together with my son, who is on the autism spectrum. No filters, no noise reduction, no AI — real places, real days.

Field notes

An old-growth forest in western Poland, a spring afternoon. A trail through the forest; the microphone picks up birds on both sides of the path.

We went deep into the forest and met no one. There are wolves in this area, no bears.

A lighter kit than usual. Recorded together with my son — the question kept coming: “what's that? what's that?”.
