Tatra Mountains Slovakia: Thunderstorm and Crickets • 5 Hours
Five hours of distant thunder and crickets recorded on an alpine meadow in the Slovak Tatras during a slow-moving summer storm. No rain, no lightning, no wind on the mic — just rolling thunder and a steady cricket chorus below the highest peaks.
Storm clouds are stacked above the peaks, but the meadow stays dry the whole session. We're lying on a blanket down below, watching this whole spectacle unfold — thunder moving across the range, wildflowers in the foreground, spruce forest on the slopes behind us. The recorder sat in open meadow grass, pointed toward the peaks. Distant thunder rolls in at irregular intervals; crickets stay consistent throughout. I'll be honest — I kept wondering if there are bears out here. The Tatras in Slovakia are quite the mountains.
Recorded 32-bit float, auto gain off — no clipping, even when the thunder got close. Gear: Zoom F3, Sennheiser MKE600, Rode NT1, blimp windscreen.
This is a father-son project — recorded together with my son, who is on the autism spectrum. We keep coming back to places like this because the sounds are steady and the rhythm is predictable, even when the sky looks like it's about to break open.
A real single-take outdoor field recording by Nature Sounds Therapy — a father-and-son duo. No music, no narration, no AI.
